Hand Vac

I don't know if this is the right section to put this in--sorry to the mods, if it's not!

Anyway, my husband surprised me the other day by bringing me home a new hand vac to use when spot-cleaning the cage. Oh my goodness!! How did I ever do without it? It is so quick and efficient! What used to take a while (and it was never all that great when I did it by hand) now takes just a minute and leaves the cage looking like I just changed it. The piggies ran from it the first couple of times, but now they'll come out and sniff at it while I clean.

If you use fleece and don't have a hand vac, get one. You'll never believe how wonderful they are! Mine is a Black-and-Decker and was just $17 at Wal-Mart. (He was thoughtful and got me the less powerful one, so that it wouldn't suck the fleece up, just the poop. It was cheaper that way, too!)

Just thought I'd share.

Re: Hand Vac

Do you know if you could find it on the Wal-mart site? I looked, but didn't know which one you were talking about. I have been looking for a hand vacuum that is not that powerful, but I have been having a hard time.

Re: Hand Vac

First, I need to correct myself. Mine's actually a Dirt Devil. I don't know why I was thinking it was a Black and Decker. Sorry!

I didn't see it on the Wal-Mart website, but here's a picture of it on the Dirt Devil website:

http://www.dirtdevil.com/Products/pr...aspx?id=173247

On their website, they're charging $29.99. My husband says he paid $17.99.

Re: Hand Vac

Yeah, those are great, I have one pretty much the same as that, its a Dirt Devil Scorpion. It fits the job perfectly and I love the little flip out crevice tool thing.

Re: Hand Vac

Office depot had one for about $7 but not sure if they will get anymore in to sell on the website. It is worth looking into though. That wet dry vac works wonders.

It was a promo item for free but is on sale now through officedepot.com.

I haven't used the little flip out thing yet. I should try it.

Re: Hand Vac

I found an old hand vac thing at a garage sale and thought that it would work. It did not. Gizmo jumped so high and ran so fast I thought he'd bust right out of the cage. I didn't have the heart to try it again. It has to be louder than my lawn mower though.

Re: Hand Vac

Poor little Gizmo. Mine's not that loud. I also turn it on outside their cage, so that they can hear it and know that it's coming. Maybe that would help you.

Re: Hand Vac

I also have a Black & Decker hand vacuum. Mine works pretty good, except it's extremely loud, and has to be plugged in 24 hours to charge. After the 24 hours of charging is up, it only lasts 20 minutes.

Bummer. I don't know how long the charge on mine lasts. I never have it off that long.

Re: Hand Vac

I found one sitting on our front porch this morning...I asked my Mom if it was ours and she said yes...I have no clue where we got it but I'm sure it'll be great for cleaning out my soon-to-be-made cage!

Re: Hand Vac

I went to walmart last night and got the Dirt Devil Scorpion for $18. But I have to charge it for 24 hours before I can use it. I hope it works. I'm pretty sure it will.

Re: Hand Vac

Thanks to your wonderful advice on getting a hand vac, I went and got the same one at walmart yesterday! I am so happy! It's so much easier, and it doesn't suck up the fleece. My piggies aren't a fan of it, but I sure am.

It definitely is so much easier!
My pigs are very scared of loud noises (since their amazing sense of hearing) so I just put them out in the hall in a cozy cup while I vacuum. I love not having to touch it. I'm fine with it in small amounts, but when there's piles on the fleece after I come home from school, i'm way happy I can just suck it up and empty it out. (:

Re: Hand Vac

Seriously, a hand vac for their cage was the best thing I ever bought! It's so helpful.
