Can you litter train a guinea pig? All of the guineas I had growing up went to the bathroom everywhere. I've had litter trained rabbits. Is it possible to litter train a guinea? How? |

Yes and no. Guinea pigs usually pick one corner they like to go in, you put the litter pan there, thus catching the poos. You might get lucky having one who will use it, but it's really 50/50 with a piggie. I have one who will pee in a litter pan, one who will sometimes, and one who just refuses! They poo all over though. |

My piggies are litter trained. I think my tips to make it work are using a different material that is different from your bedding choice. I prefer newspaper on bottom of corner litterbox with Yesterday's News Litter on top of it. I have always had a great success with corner litter pan training. But Im a stay at home mother who has no life. So all my focus is on the kids and the pigs. So I can scoop up any stray poopies and re-direct them to see that they need to go in the L.B. Which is really the way they learn. And normal people who have lives may not be able to hover over thier pigs 23-7 to train them. But in response to your question, yes it's possibble. However I had a few fosters who blatenly refused to jump on the litter box wagon.LOL. I think within a few weeks you'll see if they are responsive or not. But I know that not giving up is the key. Good Luck. |

Pigs are unlike rabbits in that way. Some pigs will train themselves, most won't. Some will just pee in pans. You can try, but (not to be a downer) don't be surprised if they don't take to it. Putting a hay rack over the pan will not only catch loose hay, but they will poop quite a bit while sitting there eating hay. |
