Question Organize-it cubes from Target...

We will be adopting 2 bunnies soon, so I went to Target and bought 2 boxes of the Organize-it cubes (I need at least 2 more boxes, but I can only spend so much per pay-check). When I opened the box I discovered that 14 of the 23 grids have HUGE holes between the wires. Only 9 have the small holes. I had no idea. How do you use up the grids with the big holes? I was thinking of using them for the shelves in the cage (plywood or some solid material will lay on top of the grid), but I still have too many of the "huge" grids. Does anyone know, do the grids at Costco all have small holes? I'm a bit frustrated because I can't afford 10 boxes or so of grids to construct the rabbit cage which I'm going to make sizeable so they aren't cramped (even though they will have many hours of floor time in the house). Any suggestions?

Re: Organize-it cubes from Target...

That happened to me too! It was only one box though. For me it was half the box. Eleven huge grids, eleven small. I used mine as part of the stand for the GP cages, but I don't know what you could do for a rabbit cage. You could try taking them back and explain what happened.

Re: Organize-it cubes from Target...

I opened the second box...same thing! UGH! I'm going to Costco in a few days. HOPEFULLY, they'll have the grids that have the small holes in all of the panels. Say a little prayer I find what I need. In the meantime, I get to go return stuff at Target...whee.

Re: Organize-it cubes from Target...

Thats so weird! I got all my three boxes at target (Never new they had them at costco, darn!) None of mine had big holes in them. I would take them back because the original idea for them is to put stuff in it, how can you do that if there are big holes...

Re: Organize-it cubes from Target...

Are they just spaced further apart, or are they missing spots and have holes like circles?

I haven't opened my new box, now I'm nervous about it... though I suppose if I did get a box like that, I could use the 'wider' ones to make the floor or ramps. If that's what the problem is...

Re: Organize-it cubes from Target...

Gooberific, there are 25 squares in the big grids, as opposed to 81 in the small grids.

Yeah.

Re: Organize-it cubes from Target...

The grids with the big spacing between wires (2 3/4") are supposed to be for the vertical panels in the storage assembly. Of course, this isn't mentioned on the outside of the box, only on the instructions once the box is opened. If there were only 5 or 6 of those grids, that wouldn't be a problem since I'll need several for flooring and ramps. Problem is that's the majority of the panels. With only 9 grids per box that I can use as cage walls it will take me 9 boxes to have enough, then I'll have enough of the grids with the large spacing to make a ramp from here (So. Cal) to Phoenix! ;-) I'm hoping Costco still has the grids since they don't always carry the same things for long periods of time. I'll post once I've been to Costco and let you know.

The same thing happened to me but it was only like that in one box. I almost freaked out but then I thought about it and decided to use those grids to make the stand for my c&c to keep my piggies cage off of the floor. I also use it as storage space for their supplies.

Re: Organize-it cubes from Target...

Oh. Well this all seems slightly stupid for them to have changed their manufacturing things without changing their packaging to indicate that. Hmph!

So, if you build that bridge, maybe my piggies can visit your bunnies.

Re: Organize-it cubes from Target...

If you look at the package, you'll see that the picture on the box is actually different. The 25-hole new design was at the request of Target to save on metal. Same manufacturer, cheaper design. I'm sure there will be many of the old design left (81 holes) that will trickle in, but once they're gone, the new design will take over. They're fine for their intended purpose, but for us, they're not. The 25-hole grids are supposed to be used for the back and sides, and the 9-hole grids are for the "shelf" parts.

Also- be careful - 14 grids in the box are the 25-hole design (5x5). The 9 grids in the box that look like they're the "normal" grids ARE NOT safe for small piggies. Count the holes ~ there's only 64 (8x8) as opposed to 81 (9x9).

Better off at Cosco, BB&B, etc. Just be sure that they're 14" square and have 9x9 holes.

Re: Organize-it cubes from Target...

This also happened to me at target. I just went back and said I picked up the wrong one and they let me return it and they had some of the ones I needed left so I had no problem with it. Don't know if they are changing them all to it or not though.

Re: Organize-it cubes from Target...

I'll have to go to Target and take a look to see if they have any of the "old" style left. I didn't even think to look to see if there was a difference between different boxes. UGH! On a REALLY positive note...I heard from the rabbit rescue...we're approved to go meet the rabbits and decide which ones are meant to be our new family members! YAY!!

Re: Organize-it cubes from Target...

I guess I'm lucky, I got a box of 9x9 squares, the whole box. All my boys have pretty big faces, though, but I'd still be worried sick if I used any of the others.

Re: Organize-it cubes from Target...

thanks for the heads-up on this - I was just about to pop down to Target this week to get another box. I will check the contents now before purchasing, or skip into BB&B next door.

Thanks again, saved me a potential return trip!

This is completely irrelevant, but my BB&B is right next to my Target too
I got my grids from BB&B.

Re: Organize-it cubes from Target...

So, I went back to Target and returned one box of the "wrong" grids. I kept the second box since I knew I could use up the panels with the wide spacing. I found 2 boxes of the grids that all have the small spacing! YAY! I only need one more box (hopefully from Costco) to finish up the cage. It's pretty neat looking, if I do say so myself, given it's my first attempt at ever building such a cage (or any cage for that matter)! :-) I'll post pictures when I'm done. I'm in the Los Angeles area....does anyone else live in the general area and know if the local Costco's have the grids?

Re: Organize-it cubes from Target...

So I guess we go the the same store! I'm in the LA area too!

Also, I guess I won't be going through all this grid-buying woes after all - a nice family wants to adopt 2 of my girls(sisters) and will come for them this weekend...I'm sad to have to give them up - we rescued them 8 months ago from a shelter, and they're so sweet, so active and so fun to watch. They're always hungry, and they'd wheek so so loudly back and run around or to us when we whistle or say excitedly to them "Who wants veggies??!!!" they've become such little fatties since coming to live with us! ..But it's been tough handling two cages in a small apartment.

Well, this family seems lovely, and they'll have a yard with grass for the fatties to roam in

Pardon the irrelevance of the story, I just had to get it out of my system.

I think I'll use the extra grids and build a second storey for my other 2 piggies..and maybe get another one

Costco in LA: I didn't find any grids when I looked, and don't remember seeing any while roaming(combing through) the aisles 2 weeks back.

Re: Organize-it cubes from Target...

Well, drat! I wonder about the Sam's club? I could try another Target. There's one near my in-laws ~ it's even a Target Grand (or whatever they call it)! Maybe I'll find a couple of boxes there! I checked at BB&B yesterday (it's not near my Target :-P ) and they only had gray. This is becoming a bit of a nuisance trying to track down these silly cubes! I've had a good time building the cage, though. We'll be getting the bunnies sooner than expected. Most likely it will be next Tuesday. I've got to get the cage finished! Oh, and finish rounding up schtuff for a yard sale this Saturday...it's for the rabbit fund! :-)

Glad to hear the piggies found a nice permanent home! Bummer that you had to let them go, though.
