Question I don't understand...

I have looked through the photo galleries of c&c cages and I love the two level cages, but I don't really understand how to make them. For example, if you have two 2x6 grid cages with one directly above the other, what supports the floor of the second level? Wouldn't it just collapse into the bottom level? I'm sure this is a stupid question, I just can't figure it out...

Re: I don't understand...

The "floor" of the next level is made of grids that kind of makes the "roof" of the level underneath it. So more or less the level underneath is going to be completely enclosed.

Re: I don't understand...

Yeah I get that part, but wouldn't it need some kind of support so it doesn't collapse or sag really bad? Especially for the longer cages, like a 2x6?

Re: I don't understand...

You could use some PVC pipe for support poles or run a PVC pipe from one end to the other and zip tie it to the floor/ceiling for support.

Re: I don't understand...

I have a 2x6 with 1x2 and 1x3 lofts. I have two 3/4" PVC pipes holding it up or it would sag and possibly collapse.

Re: I don't understand...

I have a 2 level 3x3 cage, and I cut a paper towel roll to size and used it as support on a "weak" area- it works!

Re: I don't understand...

Use the connectors and zip/cable ties to secure it. I only use connectors and haven't had a problem.

Re: I don't understand...

I have a 2x3 and a 1x2 upper level. I just used a bunch of cable ties to hold everything together. It's held up pretty well and I haven't had any problems with it. There are some good pictures on this site of how to "attach" PVC pipe to the grids. If you wanted to go that route. Which may be a good idea depending on the size of your cage.
