Question Cutting Grids!

Hello,
I have heard that you can make a ramp out of a grid. What tool is used to cur it? More importantly, wouldn't guinea pigs get hurt on the sharp point that usually lingers after something metal is cut.

Thank you for reading reading this and responding in order to help!

Re: Cutting Grids!

You don't have to cut at all if you don't want to/can't. You can bend it into a U-shape if it's going in the middle of your cage, or an L-shape if it's going against a wall. Alternately, you can use two L-shaped grids zip-tied together to form a square-ish U.

You just have to bend them on the sides that do not have a little crease on the outside (thicker) edge.

Or, if you do need to cut the grids to achieve what you want, you should file them down with a metal file until they are smooth...

In either case, make sure you cover the ground they walk on.

Example: when I had a second level, I had L-shaped grids next to a grid wall that was there to support the second level, so there was no place to fall off. I had coroplast along the ramp with little traction steps taped to it, and then covered the whole ramp, including the "safety" wall, with fleece.

Re: Cutting Grids!

Thank you!

So all you do is bend the grids, cover with coroplast to avoid injuries, add optional traction steps, cover the ramp with fleece, and attach it to the 1st and 2nd levels with cable tries.

Re: Cutting Grids!

You may want to make the ramp so it can be lifted up or taken out for easy cleaning.
