Cage help please!

I was interested in buying a C and C cage, however I have a few questions. Are all the cages on the site floor level? I asked this because orginally I tried putting the cage on the floor and my guinea pigs hated it! If I purchase one of these new cages is there a way to slightly elevate it off the ground since that is what they like? Do you think if I put it on the floor like I see in some of the pictures they would adjust to that? I'd be so thankful for any help! I am still new here and confused how some things work!

My cage is off the floor. It is 7 grids long and 3 wide, so it didn't fit on any table I could find. Half of it sits on a table. The other half that hangs over has grids for a base. It's kind of hard to describe. If you look through the galleries, there are many cages with grids for a base if you need to see a picture. Unfortunately, I don't have one of the base of may cage. Hope I helped out some and didn't just confuse the heck out of you

If you want to you could build a c&c cage.

I just built my 1st one on Sunday. It's a 2x3 and my piggies love it. I used two boxes of 14 in cubes that I bought from target with cable ties that i got from home depot to secure the cage.

There were enough cubes for me to build a two level c&c cage with an extra level to use as a stand to keep my piggies from being directly on the ground. If you look at some of the pictures of cages here in the photo gallery you will get a clear visual of a cage similar to what I'm talking about. That was also where I got the design for my cage. My room is spaciously challenged but I was able to do it.

To be honest, I think it's better and cheaper to build it yourself. When I bought my piggies 1st home I went to a pet store who did exactly what they were supposed to do (make a sale). Poor me didn't know any better, I listened to a sales rep who told me that a starter home would be the perfect size for two piggies even through adulthood. I was sold what I now know to be a glorified litter box for $89. Not satisfied with that a few weeks later I purchased another cage 47x22 ($130)not realizing that those were the measurements of the outermost part of the cage and not satisfied with that I decided to build a c&c which both I and my piggies are happy with. Thank God for sites such as this and guinea lynx from which I was able to learn about adequate cage space. I didn't know better then but I know better now.Total cost of the c&c = $67 {$26 for both boxes of cubes; $35 for a sheet of coroplast and $6 for 600 zip ties}.

I know I kind of strayed off from the point but I hope I was of some assistance to you. But yes, with a c&c you can keep your piggies from being directly on the floor, it just depends on how you build it.

I forgot to mention, I also use the cubes for storage to store pigloos, blankets, containers of food for my piggies and things of that nature.

I use grids for the floor of my cage and yes the coroplast isn't level but my boys don't seem to mind. You can use the grids for a single level to raise the cage up and use that level for storage of your containers of food, hay and whatever.
