Question Cage requirements?

I am currently making my first C&C cage for my four girls. It is taking AGES. I built it all and wanted my husband to help me with cutting the coroplast. He decided he didn't like my design so we started again. We are planning to have three level, 2 by 4 and a kitchen, 1 by 4. Will this be suffient room?

Re: Cage requirements?

Depends on how many guinea pigs you have. http://www.guineapigcages.com has the requirements in a table.

Re: Cage requirements?

The main level is suppose to be the only one that you count in figuring size requirement. The other levels are just suppose to be extra. Many pigs will not use ramps to go to other levels. At least I know mine wont. I would recommend you make at least a 2X6 or 3X5 floor level, then add upper levels to that.

Re: Cage requirements?

If you are looking at the main level being 2x4 then that is too small. I have 4 girls in a 2x7 with a small 2nd story loft. A 2x6 is the minimum you should have for 4 sows. Of course if you're like many of us your cage will change every few months or so!

Re: Cage requirements?

Thank you for all your advice. I think we might be nearly finished. For the time being we are struggling extending the length but hoping in a few months to move the cage to another room then put an extention on.

We currently have three levels at 2 by 4 grids. A fourth level being the kitchen 2 by 2. As we are struggling with the length we have made the ramps on the outside of the cage. So the three levels are exactly 2 by 4 with no space being taken up by ramps.

Do you think this will be ok for the time being? Any useful suggestions will be really appreciated.

We have four sows. Also, I have plenty of toys and hidy holes...what would you suggest to be put where? Would like to make best with the floorspace we have don't want it to be too cuttered so they can enjoying popcorning.
