Need help with ramp!

I am new to this site. I was looking in the photo gallery at the many different pics of cages and I managed to make enough room in my very small room to build my first cage. I do not have any coroplast though. It's a 2x3 at the bottom and a 2x1 at the top. The only problem is that I do not know what to use to build a ramp that's not too steep and that would not take away from floor space too much. In this situation, what do I do? I did not realize how much sweat, tears and blood went into making these cages. It took me two and a half hours. The hardest part was securing the cage with all of the cable ties. My poor fingers aer all bruised up. Anyway to get back on track, can someone give me information about building a ramp?

Re: Need help with ramp!

I am still new to these forums but I'm pretty sure they would rather see this in a different section but I'll still respond assuming it will get moved.

What do you plan to build your base out of. I built my first cage this weekend and had no coroplast and it really took a lot out of me. All the ramps I've seen are coroplast or a couple bent wire grids (only seen this once or twice) so I'm not sure.

Re: Need help with ramp!

Well, for now I'm using a plastic table cloth at the bottom with three layers of towels in the middle and one layer of fleece at the top. I'm having a hard time finding the coroplast. Since I'm on the net I was trying to find some sign shops and I think I finally found one. I hope I have enough time to check it out while I'm on lunch (hopefully it's not too far).
What section should I have posted this thread in?

Re: Need help with ramp!

If you scroll down some more there is a cages and then a sub section "about cages". The advice is pretty good there.

Anyway my piggies are worth it> They are still by my mom's house riding out this heatwave we are having. I can't wait for the to see their new home. Tonight will be their first night ion their C&C. I think I'm more excited than they are. Lol.

Re: Need help with ramp!

There are many things you can build a ramp from. I used little white baskets that I got from Wal-Mart 2/$1 and zip ties them together. You can also use the bent grids, pieces of wood, coroplast. There are many different options. You can go to the galleries and look in the ramp sections. They have lots of ideas. I've also seen people use different types of tubing as well. I know I've heard people talking about cutting a piece of PVC in half and lining it with fleece.

Re: Need help with ramp!

To not take away from lap space, you could make the ramp external by cutting a "pig-size" hole in the grids and then have the ramp connected to the hole.

Re: Need help with ramp!

Thanks everyone! Since I have a little coroplast left over I think I'm giong to try to ziptie it to a few grids in the shape of a tube. External sounds like a great idea but since I do not have any metal cutters I'm going to go with the coroplast. Thanks again.

Re: Need help with ramp!

Make sure you put someting inside the coroplast tube for traction. The pigs wont be able to climb it if you don't.

Re: Need help with ramp!

Okay, thank you. I was looking in the how to ramp section and I saw some ramps that were made by bending grids. I'm going to explore my options to see what works best for my piggies. By the way, what would be your best recomendation for traction?

Re: Need help with ramp!

I went to walmart and bought the cheapest doormat I could find. Cut it to the width of my ramp and zip tied it to it. Other people have used remnants of carpet, fleece or anything that their little piggy toes can grab hold of.
