| Hello all! My boyfriend and I have been concidering getting 2 pigs for a while now. I've had several over the years, and thought I wouldnt own another because it was heartbreaking when my last one passed away (he was 7 years old). Now, I have a store bought cage that I know will only house one adult guinea pig. Its too small! So I've made a plan that I can rearrange my room and have a big enough area ontop of my dresser to just make a cage big enough for two. My Dad, who is a GCFUP... General Contractor Fixer Upper Person. Has lots of materials at home, and I was wondering if either a) a plexiglass bottom would be suitable b) a wooden bottom coated with linoleum c) anything else that would be heavy enough for a determined pussycat to not knock it over. Also, I have 2 cats, well.. my mom has two cats and for the time being im living with her. So I need to be able to have a closed lid so the pesky lil paws dont try and pull a fast one. thankyou for reading! ![]() |

| Re: Several Questions! Plexiglas will work but it's brittle and heavy. Wood with lino or vinyl tiles on it would probably be a better choice. It will be heavy but not as breakable. You may find this thread helpful http://www.guineapigcages.com/forum/...type-cage.html it will take you through the steps to make an alternative type cage with items you may have readily available. I recommend increasing the size of it though. The bigger the better. It will also be sturdy enough to withstand your cats. Editing to add - You may also want to look in my Photo Gallery http://www.guineapigcages.com/photos...500/ppuser/719 I'm big on recycling and my GP cage is also 100% recycled and may give you some ideas. Ive checked out both of your links, the wooden base alternative was the idea I had, and if your big on recycling, you'll be happy to hear that all of the materials(except mabye the wiring) will all be recycled from the scrap pile that would just be burned or discarded otherwise. I think I'm going to take the door and wiring off the store bought cage. You've been oodles of help. And your borg avatar is freaking amazing<3 I love it. |
