Re: 2 Ferret Nations = Guinea pig cage?

Tada:

The ramps are proving problematic. I might be forced to separate the herd if I cannot figure out a way to piggie-proof the middle ramp. The ones from the main levels to the mini-levels should be alright once I add the coroplast because of the double width. The other one.. I don't know.

Re: 2 Ferret Nations = Guinea pig cage?

Ok had to edit this because I can't read.

Anyways, when you add the coroplast, try to make it so the coroplast comes up to block the path onto the middle ramp. Give the piggies one access route to the ramp by creating a "wall" of coroplast to block them from falling. I think that's what you're worried about?

I kind of did this w/ my cage like this:

Re: 2 Ferret Nations = Guinea pig cage?

Looking at your cage again, it looks like you're having an issue on placement of the ramp as well. How about "building" a new ramp. Here's an idea I did w/ one of my cages to help get the piggies from one level to another. Maybe this may work. I made a coroplast box to fit in the landing to the ramps.

My idea is to put a little coroplast box held by a grid or something ziptied to the cage. You can then flip the ramp to go to the left onto the FN landing that's there. Does this make sense??

Re: 2 Ferret Nations = Guinea pig cage?

Those all are great ideas. I cant, however, build outside the main frame cage. I would be forced to cut more out of the cage to allow access and I doubt they would be any more comfortable.

I think what I am going to do.. Use coroplast to try and make a mini-mini-level RIGHT under where the ramp is.. and then have the ramp going down. Maybe they will hop up and down and then travel down the ramp.

Re: 2 Ferret Nations = Guinea pig cage?

Im FINISHED!

No bolts. Me being the impatient person that I am: I decided not to wait another day.. or week.. for my grandfather to go buy the bolts and attach it. It works fine this way. I have the wheels locked- Its not going anywhere.

For now my herd is in 2 groups. Daphne and Delilah are on top; Divinci and Donet are on the bottom. I tried to color/separate.. I was going for a pink theme on top and purple on the bottom.

wicked, please be careful with those hayracks. I recently posted about one of my adult fosters getting her head stuck inside of one.

Re: 2 Ferret Nations = Guinea pig cage?

Oh gosh, really? Ill have to watch out. I would change them but they keep the cage so gosh darn tidy.

Harrys Dad: I don't think so. 2/4 go up and down easily. My other two are chubbers who never have liked going up and down any ramps at all.

Yes, this is the thread:

http://www.guineapigcages.com/forum/...stuck-pig.html

I really wouldn't "wait" because it makes the cage neat. You could end up with a dead pig. We were extremely lucky. I took those out and modified them heavily to make the holes smaller.

Re: 2 Ferret Nations = Guinea pig cage?

I took them out today and cable tied 1/4in mesh to the outside where the holes are bigger. That should solve the problem. Thanks for the warning.

Re: 2 Ferret Nations = Guinea pig cage?

New picture. Believe or not I vaccumed everything RIGHT before I took this picture. Maybe 10 seconds. Somehow there is an array of piggie poops there already.

Nice work! Are the piggies enjoying the new digs? I'm sure they are.

Re: 2 Ferret Nations = Guinea pig cage?

Seems so.

I think Do and Divinci are a bit more relaxed having their own part of the cage; Daphne can be a mean little bugger to them when she wants to be. She tends to leave Delilah alone- go figure.

I need to get more hideyhouses. I got new fleece today. More of the purple cowprint (yay!), a grey, and a grey with darker grey leopard spots.

Im addicted to fleece.

I am addicted to fleece too! Maybe we should start an online support group for fleeceaholics!

I think your cage looks really awesome. A lot of hard work - GREAT job!
