Question Unsure about cage idea

I don't own a guinea pig yet, but am trying to get one. I had an idea, but was unsure about it, so I decided to post it here. If I were to have this cage:

And then added some grides outside of it (for more room), would that work? Also, would I need coroplast outside of it and inside? Thanks for helping!

Re: Unsure about cage idea

Well, it would depend on how many grids that cage is and how many grids you'll add onto it.

Re: Unsure about cage idea

The photo is of a petstore cage. You'd be better off just buying grids and coroplast and constructing a C&C and leaving the petstore cage off. If you already have the petstore cage you could use it as a quarantine cage, hospital cage, travel cage or carrier to the vet's office.

If you don't have one, then don't buy one and make a C&C instead.

Re: Unsure about cage idea

Do you have the cage you have pictured? Otherwise you might as well forget about buying it and just going all out on the C&C cage, considering you are thinking about having part of one anyways. But if not you wouldn't need coroplast under the pet store one, because the purple part serves the purpose as the coroplast would. And if you really decide to use both cages, just make sure your C&C part of the cage still offers the minimum amount of space, so they still have room to run around full out!

Good luck with your cage and future piggy!

Re: Unsure about cage idea

It would most likely be cheaper, easier, and better to just do a simple c&c cage. Do you need a cover to protect from cats/dogs/etc?

A single box of 6 cubes from target costs $15 to $20. Same for a sheet of coroplast.

Do you want the cage to be elevated, or on the floor?
How big are you thinking for the whole cage?
How many piggies are you thinking of getting?

Re: Unsure about cage idea

I didn't plan on buying it, and I haven't yet. So I guess it was a good thing too. From what you guys said, I think I'll just stick to having a C&C cage.

Re: Unsure about cage idea

Don't buy it and put it in a C&C cage, that is just silly. You would be much better off with just making a C&C cage, as that is less work to clean, and is much cheaper than buying both.
