Questions on cages

I have a wooden cage store bought. I have three wonderful piggies. I want to add another floor to it, but it seems everyone has the home built cages. Does anyone know a way that I can add a second floor to a wooden store bought cage? It does have a top on it, just need to add another floor, but not sure how without a wire cage. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Re: Questions on cages

A store bought cage is not large enough for one pig, let alone three, If I were you I would look into a C&C cage. http://www.guineapigcages.com/
You need grids, which you can get at target a pack of 23 grids for $15.00, and you need coroplast, which you can get at a sign shop, the price varies from store to store, you can also use zip ties (cable ties), instead of the connectors that come with the cubes, I find it is easier with zip ties (which you can get at Home Depot or Lowes) than the connectors, and also sturdier.

Re: Questions on cages

How large is the store bought cage? Is it being used inside?

The main reason everyone has homemade cages is because the store bought cages are far too small. Wooden cages are also not very good unless they have some type of liner inside, like coroplast.

Do you have any pictures of your cage?

Re: Questions on cages

No I do not have any pics. It is a store bought wooden cage from pet smart, it is pretty good size and has a door that opens and folds down and then in the front is wire/cage material. I just was not sure what I could use to add another level to it, since it is wood on the inside.

Re: Questions on cages

Well, for 3 pigs the absolute minimum cage size would be 28in x 56in on the main floor. If the cage is not that large, you are going to need to make a new cage. A possibility would be to make your current cage into a second level in a new cage. Have a ramp lead from a C&C cage to the petstore cage. Honestly, I wouldn't go smaller than 28in x 70in or 42in x 56in for three pigs.

Is it a wood hutch? Is it indoors or outdoors?
