Question Looking for ramps in all the wrong places

I'd like to get a ramp (or 2) for my cage. I've build a 2nd floor, but I can't seem to find anything resembling a ramp. I'm out of grids, and I'd rather not buy a whole nother set to use a couple.

I've seen some nice premade ones in the gallery, but can't seem to find any when I search online.

Any suggestions?

Re: Looking for ramps in all the wrong places

I used 12 grids to make my ramp.. The piggers LOVE it.

To make it without the stand thing I used you would need 14-16.. More than 1/2 a box..

Re: Looking for ramps in all the wrong places

I've seen some ramps made from wood, so maybe if you have some extra wood lying around, this could be an idea. Also, if you only have say, one grid, you can bend this into a U shape and use something like fiddlesticks (also bent into a U shape) to balance it on. I have a setup like this if you take a look at my gallery pictures. Then it's kind of like the ramp is used as both a ramp and also a hideout, since the pigs can lay underneath the fiddlesticks.

My ramp is a piece of wood with a with a towel stapled to it and then I stapled cardboard sides to keep them from falling and they love it.

Go to the .99 cent store and find those drawer organizers, You will have to cut off the ends and may have to attach 2 together, but they work great. I used them in my old cage.

I have used those also. Currently I have one of the large bricks propped up with a small brick at one end the the pvc elbow at the other. I don't have my second level at full grid height and they can just jump up if they want to, which they do most of the time.

Could you post a picture of the drawer organizer you are referring to? Thanks!

Re: Looking for ramps in all the wrong places

I got mine at Dollar Tree. They were 3 for $1. I cut the ends off, zip tied the "rails" at the ends where I was connecting them, taped the seams on top and bottom and took my coroplast, covered it in fleece, added the treads (see the slideshow at the bottom) and zip tied it top and bottom to the basket-ramp. I zip tied the top of the ramp to the grid on the floor of the loft and put a brick under the end. You could probably do without the brick if you used a fourth basket.

It is a little bouncy but it is stable enough to hold the piggies. If you wanted to you could tape a paint stick (the kind you stir paint with) or a wooden ruler to the underside of the basket-ramp.

This is the slideshow on how to make treads for your ramp if you want them.

Re: Looking for ramps in all the wrong places

Here ya go. I used them as a bridge as well. Mine are wire covered with a plastic coating.

Re: Looking for ramps in all the wrong places

Do you know how much coroplast you needed to make the ramp? It sure would help!

Re: Looking for ramps in all the wrong places

It depends on how long and wide you want the ramp. That ramp I am showing is about 18 inches long and about 4 inches wide. When I had the switchback ramp with the landing it took a little more. Mostly I just use scrap pieces.

Re: Looking for ramps in all the wrong places

My ramp is made out of a plastic gutter. Sounds weird huh? It doesn't have a top..it's kinda like a u shape. My girls fit perfectly in it and have room to grow. I got the gutter at Home Depot for I think under $10 and it's really long. I just cut it to whatever length I wanted it, added a towel to absorb their urine and a piece of fleece on top of the towel. I puched holes in it, and zip tied the top of it to the cage. It works great. They love it. I'll try to post some pictures tonight when I get home.

Re: Looking for ramps in all the wrong places

I found a picture of the gutter online. But I'll post a picture of my ramp tonight.
