Litter Training

I need advice on how to litter train my pigs. I'm not quite sure how to keep them going in the same spot more than a few times. All suggestions appreciated.

Re: Litter Training

My girls are starting to catch on. Though one, a bit more than the other.

We have our cage lined with fleece. We have a litter box on the ground floor with wood pellets, and one up on the loft floor too. I have hay bins right next to the litterboxes too. It seems to be working.

Re: Litter Training

I read that you should put the litter box in one corner, there food in another corner, the water in a different corner, and there house in another corner.

Re: Litter Training

If you're lucky, your pigs will litter train themselves. Most never fully get the idea and go wherever they feel like it. Often times, they will go to the bathroom in the same areas they eat. You might want to try putting a litter pan under a hay rack.

Re: Litter Training

Its more of the pigs training you. What I did was I put a shallow under bed storage bin in their cage, I put bedding in it and then I put their food and hay in it. It is where they spend much of their time..eating hay or sleeping in the hay, so many of theri pottys end up in it. But they do potty in the rest of their cage. The few people who do have litter trained pigs, it seems as if the pigs trained them selves

Re: Litter Training

Thanks for all the suggestions I'm going to try to make a spot for their hay and food in their loft because as you have said thats is where they poop the most in my cage. Thanks a lot.
