Bending Grids!

Is there a trick to bending the grids so evenly. I have seen many people with the bent grids as the ramp and for tunnels. Before I start bending and breaking the grids, is there a trick to bending them safely?

Re: Bending Grids!

I also want to know this to. I broke two grids trying to bend them to use as a ramp.

Re: Bending Grids!

Really? I've never had a problem doing this. What I do is put one foot on one side and gradually bend it slightly, then swap sides and repeat the process slowly until it's bent enough.

Re: Bending Grids!

No problem. Easy does it, just do a little at a time and it shouldn't break.

Re: Bending Grids!

If you look closely you will see where the outside of the grid is welded together. Make sure you aren't trying to bend the edge that has the seam. Also if you look you will see the grid bars on one side of the edge, I think you want to lay it down with the grid bars on top of the edge and bend it up that way. I haven't tried to bend any grids so I am not sure if that makes a difference or not.

ETA: Ok I just went to the photo gallery and found the picture of someone bending a grid. They say to have the wires facing away from you. Here is the link to the series of photos about bending a grid.

Re: Bending Grids!

For some reason my link wouldn't post and by the time it got it to where I thought it would post, time had expired.

So here is the link for the pictures about bending grids.

Re: Bending Grids!

Thanks! I think I am just going to use coroplast for ramps, though, since I don't have many grids left over, and I don't want to waste them.

Re: Bending Grids!

For a clean, even bend, like a corner, I placed a two by four that was bigger than the grid on top of the grid where I wanted the bend to be. I stepped on the board, making sure that my feet were over the thick edges of the grid. I bent with slow, even pressure. This worked great! It made neat, even corners. Oh, and yes, I snapped several before I figured out never to bend the seamed edge.

Re: Bending Grids!

Yeah, I think i'll just make a ramp out of coroplast or someting else, because I don't have enough leftover grids to experiment with.
