Pet store cages

I'm looking to enter the guinea pig world for our oldest daughter (though the youngest will get one too) but I'm having trouble sourcing equipment for a C&C cage in the UK.

I've read various pages on the net confirming size is paramount and have come across a large pet store cage available with sizes of 140cm x 71cm (equates to about 56" x 28") roughly. Does this seem big enough to house 2 piggies? I reckon it seems to equate to a 4x2 C&C cage, though you cant obviously build a second tier to the pet store cages. It would just 'make do' until sourcing equipment became easier in the UK and release some pressure on my hubby to build one straight away!!

Any thoughts??

Re: Pet store cages

Yes that cage would be a 4x2, that's a very big pet shop cage you've found! I would be tempted to just build a pen out of some wire mesh or a puppy play pen as I would think the cage you've found is going to be very expensive and will be a bit of a waste if you're going to build a C&C. There are a couple of threads in the UK section on sourcing cubes, and try eBay too. I hope you find some soon; your piggies will love it

Re: Pet store cages

It is probably big enough but I doubt it is actually equivalent to a 2x4. The sizing of commercial cages is on the outside instead of the inner, usable space. To be certain, if you see the cage in person, measure the inside of the pan of the cage to find out how much it actually measures.

Could please post the make, manufacturer and model of the cage you found? I'm curious. And how much does it cost? A photo or link would be great. Thanks.

Re: Pet store cages

Chances are it's this one - Bunny & Guinea Pig Cage Rabbit 140: Great Deals on Guinea Pig Cages at zooplus - I also agree with VJ - the useable dimensions are NOT as stated on the site.

The grids really aren't that hard to find in the UK. B&Q are apparently stocking them again, Wickes have also started stocking them. Correx is easily purchased online.
