Question Cage trouble....

I bought a cage from a pet store right when I got my pig only to find out it he barely had enough room to run around without hitting something. Right now I have built an addition to his pet store cage that is 46" by 42" and I built a ramp to his other cage. He won't go up my ramp that is almost completely flat and covered in towel and when i put him in the addition which has fleece(the cage has carefresh) he runs around in circles and chirps then he really quickly hops back into the cage with bedding. Is this because he likes his fleece that he runs around in it than jumps out or because he only likes bedding? I'll post pics.

Re: Cage trouble....

I'm not sure. Maybe he just needs time to get used to the extra room, also I think they need time to adjust to a new home as well. That extension looks really good, I'm sure he get to like it in time. How long have you had him?

Re: Cage trouble....

Four days but we got him from this seemingly good but bad pet store who kept 13 pigs in a cage the size of the original one I had.I know you shouldn't get them from pet stores but what they were doing was horrible so I had to at least save one. I found a solution to the ramp I took old metal shelving and put a towel on it than wrapped a book sock around it and he seems to like it. I'll put a picture up of him. He's seven weeks old.

Re: Cage trouble....

My guinea pig either doesn't know how or can't use his ramp I made him it is just a little one for in between cages. I wrapped a towel around the wire shelving and then put a book sock around it and he won't even set foot on it and he loves his other cage. I need help on good materials for a ramp covering and I don't want to use carpet because he tries to eat it.

Re: Cage trouble....

When my guinea pigs had a ramp, it took them a while to use it as well. Eventually, the got the hang of it.

Re: Cage trouble....

My pig loves his cages and additions but he only will explore his addition when I put him in there. Otherwise he stays in his kitchen which has his hay, food, and water should I spread out that so he has a reason to be in the other cage. Your thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Here is a picture.

Re: Cage trouble....

Am I to understand you just have one piggie? They are very social and not very accepting of new things solo. Otherwise just give him some time to adjust.
