Re: about a cage !!

It looks more for a hamster.......If you make the coroplast high on the sides, it will not be messy. And their is some great ways to use minimun space. Just check out the photo gallery. Personally, I would tell you parents that you want the best for the guineas pigs. Do you already have a guinea? If not, I would advise you to not get one untill your on your own.

Re: about a cage !!

The problem is, guinea pigs need space. Lots of it. Skimping on space may be convenient for you and your family, but it really sucks for the guinea pig. I've had a CC cage for several months, and it's far less messy than cages like the one pictured because I made the sides 7" high. Very little shavings spill out, and it's so easy to clean. I just use a dust pan to scoop out the shavings, spray it with watered down vinegar and whipe it out. Takes about 10 min.

If space really is a big concern, I've heard of some people taking the door off a closet and converting it into a cage. That way they're out of the way, but still have the area they need.

Hope you find a good solution!

Re: about a cage !!

Nope, it's too small. C&C are not messier then regular cages.

It's not really fair of humans to have a large living area but give their animals less then they need. Our pets should have lots of space and things to do. Unlike us they cannot leave the house whenever they want and in most cases don't even have a seperate room to go to. Please take your pets' best interests to heart and provide them with lots of room and stimuli.

EDIT - Please only start one thread about a subject. I deleted the second thread you started.

Re: about a cage !!

Cat and dog litterboxes are far too small! They make good litterboxes for guinea pigs too though!

The chart on the home page gives you an idea of the minimum size of cage you need to be thinking about.

Use this link to locate the materials you will need;

Alternatives to coroplast are linoleum or vinyl, or a shower curtain, or groundsheet/tarpaulin.

Sorry - your link didn't work for me.

Coroplast is also known as correx/corrugated board.

Corrugated plastic - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

coroplast - Google Image Search

Re: about a cage !!

The C & C Cages are definitely not messier, and you will have to clean them out less than a pet store cage, if you make one big enough.

Before I found this site I also had a store bought cage. My piggies didn't have the room to run around, and unless they were out having floor time, they just sat or walked. Since I built my C & C Cage (a 4 x 2 with a 2 x 2 loft) they run around popcorning and generally playing most of the time.

Please find the time to invest in a good cage for your piggy. They will thrive and be so much happier.

This is the one I built for my 2 boys. Apart from spot cleaning, I only have to fully clean it once a week.

Re: about a cage !!

That is a hamster in that cage! I convinced my parents to let me build a C&C cage and I love it. It does take up more room but my piggie is much happier.
