Why not put cube cage inside cloroplast? We will be purchasing a gp next month and are making our cage. Cavy cages is a great site! Why can't we make a cloroplast box that is larger than the cage and then place the cage inside it? This seems much easier than all that extra cutting, especially with multi-levels. Is there a danger of the uinea pigs chewing the bars or something? Thanks. Last edited by mburrage : 06-24-06 at 09:13 pm. Reason: misspelling

Re: Why not put cube cage inside cloroplast? Trust me. You won't want to clean it.

Re: Why not put cube cage inside cloroplast? Haha funny story, I know somebody who tried this... They hated it and decided to put their pig up for adoption. A rich family adopted it. Long Story Short: it's hard to clean and it is hard to do that with a multi level. (Did I go ??)

Re: Why not put cube cage inside cloroplast? Can I just say one thing? Well, I'm going to anyways. Please don't purchase a pig. Go adopt two from a rescue or shelter. There are way too many animals in the shelters/rescues that are in need of a good home. "Don't buy, when a shelter animal dies" I'm glad you are at least doing your research beforehand. I would be afraid of them getting their feet caught under the grids plus it sounds like it would be harder to clean.

Re: Why not put cube cage inside cloroplast? I second Jenn. Please do avoid breeding or supporting breeding. http://cavyspirit.com/breeding.htm http://cavyspirit.com/hollister.htm http://cavyspirit.com/petstores.htm http://www.guinealynx.com/breeding.html There are over 2,000 recorded (there are a lot more that aren't reported) homeless cavies as of March 2006 in the US alone (according to petfinder.com). Breeding is also very dangerous, 1 in 5 sow dies giving birth. There are also genetic abnormalities that occur because of inbreeding or breeding the wrong breeds together resulting in lethals.http://www.cavycages.com/forum/showthread.php?t=4190 Adoption is worth the effort. Check out the adoption forum on this forum, on www.guinealynx.com, on www.pigloo.net, check out www.petfinder.com, you local humane society, your local newspaper, http://cavyrescue.com/, http://www.craigslist.org/. Be patient and you will be able to save a wonderful pig. As far as cubes inside the coro, I thought this was a good idea too at one point. It just doesn't work well. Poops get wedged up against, under, and in them. And then you can't make a connected stand for it out of cubes (which isn't a big deal if you cage is on the floor or table, but mine isn't.)

Re: Why not put cube cage inside cloroplast? Wow, I was going to ask a similar question today and was thrilled to see that not only has someone asked, people have answered. YAY. I was wondering the same thing, I saw that when Sue makes her cages all the pics had the grid on the outside. Now that I read the answers and have thought about it it makes a lot more sense to have it on the outside. Oh and on a side note..thanks for putting up the info on where to find coroplast in SC I'm not sure who did it but it's helped in deciding whether to buy or build a lot. Casey

Re: Why not put cube cage inside cloroplast? I made my first cage like that by accident. It was funktastic, and horrifically hard to clean. Bedding, poop, and urine got caught between the cage and the coroplast, and it would take me hours to get down in there... at one point I was using an old toothbrush to try to scrape it back out. It was truly a nightmare.
