i just built a 4x6' cage on my daughter's floor. i set the pet store cage (bottom only) inside with the chip flooring and food...my question is...what should i put on the REST of the floor, on top of the coroplast? right now i have a blanket...have toyed with the idea of hay but am afraid of the mess so am also thinking of cheap bathroom mats. any other ideas? (my cage is too ugly to post a pic of!) i've also had to cover it with large sheets of acrylic that lay on top of curtain rods to keep the cat out. mom to linnie and chip...two males |

You can either cover it all with lots of the usual bedding like wood chips or paper based animal beddings or do a search on this forum for fleece. It's a way of using blankets and towels or similar absorbent cloth instead of bedding. |

A good choice would be covering it with pet palace pet bed. It's a veterinary type of mat that is really soft and pulls the moisture down. Then just line underneath with newspaper or puppy pads. You can find them at the following link : http://www.kvvet.com I ordered two to put on the bottom of my cage because it is just to pricey and messy to keep covering it with carefresh...plus these pads are supposedly really soft. |

We use a quilted waterproof crib pad, with a large towel on top of that, with a single thickness of fleece over that, and it works really well. A brick in each corner of the cage holds everything in place. No smell, no messy chips everywhere, and the piggies' feet stay dry. I recommend it! |

I have been using various blankets and a few crib sized quilts. You are quite right that this size is nice but my laundry has increased also! I also am finding that I am drinking more boxed wine because boy do they love to play in that box when it's empty! I also followed that link to the "pet palace pet bed" and wondered how you keep something like that clean. (It's all about clean to me.) Last edited by PiggyHappy; 05-08-06 at 06:07 pm. I got my palace pet bed in and I love it. It is so soft and before my piggie only layed down on her pillow in her tent. Now she lays out in the open on the pet bed and looks so comfy I wish I had one. To keep it clean you would just need to wash it once a week. My piggie poopies on the palace pet bed which are easy just to vacuum up and she has only being going pee(I think...I havn't felt any wet spots or seen any stains) in her litter area. I will still need to wash it though because of some veggies she has eaten on it. |

I have been using newspaper for under my old towels. But instead of using all large pieces I use my counter and rip the paper into like 5 X5 pieces. Then I lay it on top of the larger pieces. That way I have gotten to find out his pee spots, so when I poop pick up I lift my towels pick up the soaked pieces and replace with new and it just takes a few seconds. It has worked really well for me and I HATE smelly and it isn't. |

I have supreme in the top and super deluxe rib in the bottom. There is a difference in thickness with the super deluxe rib being a bit more plush. The other advantage of the super deluxe is it has a rubberish ribbed backing that prevents sliding while the supreme does not. Hope this helps. |
