New member with a new C&C cage

Hi all! My wife and I have been looking for quite some time for a small, easy to maintain pet that was allowed under the "NO DOGS OR CATS" rule in the Navy Housing rules that we live under.

A few weeks ago my wife had the idea of getting a guinnea pig. I said lets go check it out! We ended up with a tan/white pig and a starter kit. A week later we got a black n tan short hair. Now, if you know me (which you will HAHA) I dont half-**BEEP** anything! I go all out! My kids first pet was a siamese fighting fish in a 1.5 gal. tank that turned into a 90 gallon planted freshwater zoo!

Today I just finished shopping for the cubes and coroplast and finished making it in about 1 1/2 hours. I bought the cubes from target (15" cubes with the 1.5" holes), no worries, no prego or baby piggies in there. ;-) That was $19.99. I then went to the local sign shop and bought a 4'x8' sheet of black coroplast for $22.50. After all was said and done I made a 2'5"x5' pen for the little guys. I'll tell ya, those little critters can run!

The colorful zip ties that you see on top are quite unique, their is a tab where the end of the zip tie enters that you can push in and REMOVE it! Vice having to cut those dang things! You can get them at SAFEWAY for a couple bucks.

I'll post some pics if I can figure that out of the cage and the lil' runts!

Nice!

That is a nice looking cage for Harvey and Buckwheat. The fish tank looks good too.

I really like the zip ties that you can remove. We don't have a Safeway around here but I am going to look at Home Depot for some. That would sure beat cutting the ties all the time when I lock the cage top. (Which I do overnight to prevent over loving kiddies from picking up Petunia without me present)

Nice cage, but wheres the hay? I totally cover my bedding with timothy hay. the piggies need plenty of it.

Love the pigs - too cute! But just wait, you haven't even gotten started on the cage. Just wait until you start the remodeling. Ramps, lofts, the second story addition, etc.... It is quite addicting.

You know, I've been totally covering my bedding with hay too but I think I might change. The problem is that I can't spot clean very well. I'm thinking of moving the hay to designated spots so that I can scoop out soiled bedding and hopefully extend the time between full cage changes.

OH MY GOSH! Now I'm a total cavy head. My 3 year old ran in to say that his baby sister bit him. I told him to keep his hands out of her cage! I meant crib. Ha Ha.

The hay was put in after we let the pigs frolic and what not for a while, they were running laps for like 20 minutes! Well ok, not running laps but more like playing tag and catch me if you can kind of games. I put two big handfulls of tim. hay a day for the boys.
