    Question 2x3 with 2x2 or 2x1 2nd story? 2 piggers

I have two guinea pigs and I was wondering if a 2x3 with a 2x2 or 2x1 second story would be okay. Would it give them enough room becuase their food, hay, and water will be on the second story and the cottom area will be toys and hidey houses so they can run a lot. I know the size is suposed to be a 2x4 but I dont have that much room..so I was wondering if that would be okay

    Thanks everyone

It's not the ideal setup but if it's the best you can make fit then it will work. I would do a 2x2 top level. Definitely see if you can find the threads on doing external ramps otherwise your 2nd level is not going to gain you anything. The area you add in at the top will be about the same as the ramp takes away from the bottom.

    Would grid ramps work?

I would try and do something like this

    http://cavycages.com/images/Pigpen-ready2.jpg
    http://www.cavycages.com/photos/show...o=4434&cat=509
    http://www.cavycages.com/photos/show...09&limit=views

I think these 3 are really good Idea's for keeping the used space down put I can't find any ramps that come outside the cage.

Outside ramps are made of pvc or plastic drainage pipe. There should be a few threads around but I can't seem to find them. Someone needs to put a pic up in the ramp section of the galleries. I know I saw a pic in the cages section but finding that would be harder than finding the threads on how it was done.

That's a tad small. Is that all you can fit in? I have two pigs in a 6x2 with an up stair of 2x1 and I still don't think that's enough room. Finnigin likes to run and he still has to cut sharp corners.

I used two to three panels to make my ramp. My mom helped me bend them around a paint can until I like shape they were and so they didn't just go straight up but they had a tad of a slant to them. And then used zip ties to hold the carpet down the ramp.

Ok fluff now you are making us look bad. Well me. Just try and fit a 2x3 in with a 2nd level but make sure the ramp is small so they have maximum lap space.

Yeah Piglet thats what I am going to do becuase you only have to use one grid as the ramp... am I right?

    Re: 2x3 with 2x2 or 2x1 2nd story? 2 piggers

I have 2 piggers, and I have a 2x3 on the bottom and and an L shaped 2x2 and then 1x3. It is 3 along the back and then comes out for one grid at the end. We haven't done any ramps yet, because we are seperating the dad at night in case she goes in to labor, and he goes into the loft. I am home all day and when I go out my 2 homeschooling sons are here, so there is someone always watching the piggy's in the living room and they are usually getting lap or floor time.

Anyway, after she has her babies and they have found homes, will will decide then how to make the ramp to best suit the cage and piggies. We have discussed several ways to do it, we just haven't officially decided on a plan yet. And if we can't find them all homes then I may have to take apart the loft, build it a bottom and keep the males in one and the females in another. I don't really want to do that, but we will just have to wait and see how it goes.

On my girls side, (I have 2 girls) I have a 2x3 base with a U-shaped 1x3x1 loft. The ramp is made of extra coroplast and a outdoor mat turned up-side down. You can look in my gallery for ideas.

To abd you aren't looking for a boy or two. I am trying to find a good home for my two boys.

And dont feel bad they were in a 3x2 with a 3x2 upper. Just got more space.

I have recently been looking around the web for info on cavy's. I can't take any just yet, because we want to get the cage built first. But if you still havn't found them a home with about a month I might be interested in both of them. I am living in Austin.

Ah, sorry. After checking the post about your little ones I realize I'm probably not what you want for them. This would be my first time owning any.
