Question Cage Size

I just recently made a new cage for my two pigs .....it is 3x3, but we split it in half, so each pig has 1.5x3, since where they are, there isn't enough room for 3x4. I was just wondering if that was ok, since 2x3 is good for one pig. They can see each other through the grids, but they each have their own coroplast tray. Each side is 6 inches, where as the last cage had 9 inch sides because we have had them since they were born and didn't want them to escape...I just need a little bit of feedback. My pigs seem thoroughly happy with their cage, they are much more active. Is 1.5x3 ok?

Re: Cage Size

Yeah, I think that size is fine, practically a 2x3 anyway. Why are the pigs seperated?

Re: Cage Size

The pigs are seperated because they fight a lot, I don't know whether or not it has something to do with the fact that they are sisters, but at one point, Oreo had 2 large scabs on her back, and that was when we knew they had to be seperated. They still don't get along all that great, we have to watch them really closely during floor time.

Could they have mites?

Re: Cage Size

ummmmm we just treated Oreo, but they have been fighting since they were about maybe a year old, and now they are three, so I think its just more that they don't get along. We're going to treat Rosie tomorrow. We're not sure if its mites or not, or a fungal infection.

Re: Cage Size

If you treat one, you must treat the other so that whatever they have doesn't spread back and forth. I would work on getting them treated, sounds like mites, then doing re-introductions.

Re: Cage Size

We're always doing introductions, they just NEVER get along, they can't stand each others presence

We did Oreo yesterday and we did Rosie today
