Question Question about using linoleum instead of coroplast

I am interested in getting a couple of guinea pigs, and found this site when I was trying to find information about care/feeding/etc. I'm pretty sure I can get the grids fairly easily, but the coroplast was presenting a problem. Then it dawned on me that I am having new vinyl installed in my bathrooms in the next week or two and will have quite a bit left over from the 12'x12' sheet that I purchased.

My question is, if I use the vinyl to make a cage bottom instead of coroplast, is there anything special I need to do with it, or can I follow the directions as written in the "how to" portion of the site?

Another semi-related question is at what height is the best place to keep the cage? On top of our entertainment center (about 4' tall) would be good for us as far as easily visible but high up enough to keep visiting kids out, but is there any reason why the guinea pigs wouldn't like being at such a height?
