Click on the link for photo galleries at the top of the page, and you'll see more pictures of cages than you thought possible. Generally speaking, no, your cage doesn't need a top. If you have cats, dogs, or kids, you might want to make one though. Any predator creatures need to be kept out, so your piggies feel safe.

No, you don't need a top unless you have another predatory pet at home. Most pigs can't jump or climb over the 14in grids.

Nor do they seem to want to. My guinea pigs have surprised me befor with how high they can jump. But if anyones girls are like mine, If they can see there cage durring lap time. Its usually the #1 thing on there mind and have no problem going back to it. Actually its what they seem to prefer hah.

Re: One last question (at least for today!) =)

None of my cages have tops. I have a dog and a cat. The cat wouldn't do anything (she is completely blind so she doesn't jump or anything) and the dog is harmless to our pets, but she isn't allowed in the same room as them without someone watching. Unless you have an animal which is likely to jump in and attack the guinea pig or a child/toddler then a top is not necessary. I have heard of rare cases of guinea pigs jumping out though!

Re: One last question (at least for today!) =)

My baby pig is a climber. The first time she climbed out of a laundry basket (they were in it temporarily while I made adjustments to their cage) I thought to myself "All those people who say pigs can't climb are crazy!", but she seems the exception rather than the rule. Anyway, she was climbing out so she could get back into her cage. Pigs sure love their cages!
