Easiest way to do it is to go to Home Depot or some place like that and get wire shelving and have it cut to the right size.

How do you securely hinge it?

Hi, I'm a new member. I love the photos everyone has posted of their homemade cages. I'm going to attempt one myself. I was wondering what is the best way to securely attach the wire closet shelf to the top of the cage so that it opens?
Thanks for any advice!
Michelle

Use wire ties and loosely secure them so you can lift the top up and down.
