Branches/twigs from certain fruit trees can also be used as a 'chew' object. I use apple tree twigs that I purchase from a local farm. They usually just chew of a big of the bark and some of the inner piece.

Be careful, some fruit trees are poisonous. I know apple is OK. Also, tree shouldn't be treated with pesticides.
