The reason for quarantine is because many illnesses can take days to weeks to incubate. If you just stick pigs together and one is ill (even if not showing signs yet) then they can infect the other pigs and get them sick too. Another reason is mites and other parasites. Parasites transfer very easily between pigs, thus why we tell everyone if you need to treat a pig for mites/parasites, treat all your pigs so it doesn't transfer back and forth. Quarantine is not just for new pigs coming into your home but for existing pigs in your home as well. |
