They are awake most of the time, about 20 hours out of a 24 hour period. They sleep in very short bursts of 10-15 minutes at a time all throughout the day and night, most often with their eyes open. Sometimes you can't tell if they are awake or asleep. Normally, only pigs that are very comfortable in their surroundings will close their eyes when sleeping.

Some people say that they are most active at dawn and twilight, but in my own experiences, I've found that not to be true. My pigs are active in the late morning, the afternoons and sometimes at 3 a.m.
