Maybe I'm a cynic but I have a very hard time believing that there is any country in the entire world where it would make the national news if someone lied about their reasons for rehoming a guinea pig.
Please don't make this a "US v. UK" issue. People of all nations lie all the time over all sorts of things, big and small.
