I too, live in Az. I am down south, Tucson way. I too buy my hay by the bale from a local feed store. I have 6 piggies and 2 rabbits. They all eat timothy hay.
I store the hay in my shower stall in my extra bathroom. It stays dry and away from my other animals. It lasts so much longer and is so much better than bagged hay. You can usually get a mixture of alfalfa/bermuda, bermuda hay also. My crew likes the timothy hay the best.
