I use the smallest size wet/dry vac from sears. Yes, 3rd cut KM Timothy was easiet, but she doesn't have any in stock. It's softer, doesn't have those long, stiff sticks in there. I ran out though and have been using Oxbow. Because I have the smallest shop vac (1 1/4 inch hose, I think?), although the suction is very poserfult o pick up ANYTHING, it will clog easily with the long sticks. I usually spend 10 seconds picking up with the sticks by hand, and then finishing off the rest of the cage with the wet/dry vac. If you have the space for a larger shop vac, it comes with a larger diameter hose and I would imagine would clog less. The suction power though on the smaller one is totally sufficient if you can deal with being careful about avoiding sticks. The small one fits under the cage too as an added bonus.

Also, adding a large litter pan under the hay rack with ultra carefresh, cuts down on hay being dragged around the cage too. I use a highbacked on one side rectangle pan that I think is made for ferrets, etc.
