I prefer glass bottles because I can boil them if necessary to disinfect them. I don't think dishwasher washing would do a lot of good since it has such a tiny hole for the spout, but I've never tried.

They are more expensive and yes they can break easier - but generally come with a super cool spring with clips that works so much better than the plastic flimsy things and the wire connectors.

I had a lot of drippage in my bottles until I started replacing the rubber gaskets.

You can also look up a type of bottle from Lixit (if they are still around) - it has a metal nipple instead of steel balls. I used to buy parts from them years ago to make my own watering set ups.
