I have one of these and use it for hay as an extra source. They have their usual hay in their tray & then for a bit of change I'll hang the ball up. They enjoy reaching to get it but also like to eat it from the tray as normal. I think as long as it isn't your only supply of vegetables or hay etc... then it should be fine
