Actually, some languages are easier to learn if you know another language. I know Latin, so I can pick up a lot of Spanish reading signs in my neighborhood.
But ALL languages are easier to understand when the people using them spell correctly so you can
look up words in the dictionary. Trust me, I took two semesters of German and I just joined a German-language guinea pig forum. If you can copy and paste a word you don't know into a dictionary site, it makes it a lot easier to decode a language you don't know well.
