It's like this, do you EVER hear of a cat in the wild hunting grains? Or better yet, vegetables? At least the food we are feeding now is okay (but we are switching if I have anything to do with it) as far as being dry since there aren't any by-products (By-products are okay, but you shouldn't get a commercial food with by-products because you don't know what it is, if you read that link I gave you you'll know why) or corn gluten meal. See most foods that are made appeal to humans, showing "wholesome grains" and vegetables and fruits, and no bones. But in reality they should have bones (ground up), organs, and meat. Though it seems gross to us, it's what they eat.
