Not necessarily Ziggy. Toff has cataracts, one that takes up 2/3s of one eye, and another that is in the middle of her other eye. We tested her urine, and the glucose levels were normal so diabetes were ruled out. The vet said there were a couple of things that could have caused the cataracts, one being mineral deposits (I think - I can look up her thread on GL if it helps?). Basically all you can do is monitor them and watch for any inflammation, or anything unusual.
