Hi! I just registered on this forum, however I have been lurking regularly since I got my first piggy, over two years ago! This site has helped me so much with information about caring for my guinea pigs.
I was given my first pig when she was a six week old baby, Pixie. I knew a bit about guinea pigs, and had looked after a friends pigs, so she got alright care in terms of average pig care, with safe shavings, veggies, hay, floor time, etc for the first little while. However, I immediately started researching, and quickly found this site. I realized she needed a much bigger cage than she was living in right now (which was meant to be only temporary, but I didn't realize quite how small it was!
). I also learned she needed a friend. So, I set to work building my C&C cage, and looked for a piggy to
adopt. I met a lady who volunteered for the humane society and had a pregnant foster piggy, and offered me a baby girl after speaking to me. So, I brought home Pearl at four weeks old. Intros went very smoothly, and they've lived quite peacefully together in their spacious cage since. They're now little princesses and they know it. Their two level cage is now covered with fleece and towels, they have cozy pouches and cuddle cups to sleep in, unlimited hay, plently of fresh veggies, good quality pellets, daily floor time, toys and lots of love. Pixie turned two years old in April, and Pearl will be two in two days. Thank you so much for all the information over the past couple years!
