I think that's just a rumor made by folks that don't clean their rat's cage as often as they should. Of course, rats eat a lot of people type food, including meat....so their poo is going to smell worse than a piggies, for sure. However, rats are very easy to litter train, and you can just dump the boxes frequently. There is NOTHING that smells worse than cat pee though.
