Cavies have a harder time digesting grains, including grain hays like wheat hay, oat hay, and others. These are good treat type hays but not normal everyday type hays. Lucerne is just another name for alfalfa hay. If your pigs are under 6 months or so, they could have this daily to every other day but what is essential on a daily basis is some type of grass hay.
There are several types of "grass" hays. Timothy is only one type of grass hay. Call around you and see what you can find for grass hay. They could have the oat hay as a once or twice weekly treat in smaller amounts. |
