| Re: Should we really make our own? They have a ton of pigs, I am sure they would have a pair that would be perfect for you guys. Don't worry too much about the being skittish thing. ALL guinea pigs will run when you are trying to pick them up (little stinkers) but almost all of them calm down when you get them in your arms. Feeding them lots of fresh veggies every day helps them to bond quickly to you. Food is a great motivater for these guys. What you will want to do for your kids is make sure that you get the pigs out and hand them to the kids. Preferably while the kids are already sitting down. Your oldest should be able to walk around while holding the pig but I would not have the younger kids walk or stand while holding them. Pigs can jump! We like to get a towel on our laps first (because poopies and pee pee happens sometimes) and then hold them and give them a treat. As a rule, no matter how well behaved the kids are, you should tell them that they cannot reach in the cage and get out a pig unless an adult is around. It may sound mean for the kids but it is better for the pigs if there are rules set in place to protect them. |
