Re: Can't Find Pigs To Rescue??

Ditto to that. I was ignorant, didn't know any better (although that is no excuse), I did not know that their was such a thing as rescues and shelters which had guinea pigs. So, I got my girls from alternative places, I love them, don't get me wrong, but the thought of what I have done, how I have now made a breeder somewhere breed another litter is horrible to say the least.

Basically, in the whole of Western Australia there are no shelters, rescues etc and until recently I did not know that there was even one in Australia. I now have some information for the people of Australia who have the same excuse as I had (the excuse being; there are no shelters/rescues in Australia), there are places where you can adopt from. Australian Cavy Sanctuary will fly guinea pigs interstate, sure it costs more, but it is worth it. I have also found that if you look through the Quokka (I think it has a different name for each state, but it is basically a newspaper which has things available for sale) you will find people who are no longer able to have their guinea pigs and are looking into re-homing them. I am currently in the process of, this time, adopting another guinea pig. I plan to send of my application form to ACS and am also looking through the Quokka.

I know that I have no excuse for getting my girls from where I got them, but I was ignorant. I now know better, and am deeply sorry for what I did, nothing I can say or do can change the past but what I say and do now can change the future. And that is what I plan to do; change the future, one person at a time.
