Yeah I don't think they spay and neuter the animals, because most of the guinea pigs they sell are young and shouldn't be big enough to be fixed. I can understand maybe a ferret or rabbit but nothing else. I got a guinea pig from petco 5 years ago and I'm not sure she's fixed. There's no way I can tell.
