Yes, a very calm and reasoned set of arguments. Sounds like you are all in agreement that adopting is a good idea. Seems like the difficulty comes from the mechanics of adoption. Since there is no set way to run a rescue, there are sure to be some rescues with methods and techniques that don't seem acceptable. I tend to think I'd feel the same about intrusive questions. You can see what the point of them is (will you be committed long term; can you afford medical care if needed). I'm fairly confident 99% of the rescues I'm familiar with would have been happy to adopt to you, Susan. I think Teresa's technique of steering less than perfect adopters to shelters is a good alternative. Many rescuers feel a special responsibility to the pigs that come under their care and feel they need to try their best to ensure the pig finds its way into a stable, responsible, and loving home. |
