I was watching Animal Housecalls yesterday (the show on CP24 where Anne Rohmer has people from different humane societies, or vets or other experts on the show, and viewers can call in). A man from my local SPCA was on, talking about Friends for Life Week, which is a national campaign to promote animal adoption and responsible pet ownership, and raise money for shelters.
If you happen to buy Iams brand dry food for your dog or cat, they will donate $1 from every purchase to the participating shelters of the Canadian Federation of Humane Societies for all purchases this week. They are also donating several pounds of dry food for each animal adopted from each shelter, so if you have been thinking about adding a cat or dog to your family, this week would be a great time for the shelters.
Incidentally, the guest from my local SPCA brought a kitten and a guinea pig with him! I was so excited to see an adoptable guinea pig on television, and also at how they made a point to talk about how sad it was for the poor pig that the kids got tired of him, and that parents should talk to their kids about making a commitment to a pet before just running out and getting one.
