When we build ours we've decided we are going to build it 2x6 since we have a 6 ft table it can go on. we don't want to go any deeper than 2 ft. for the very reason you mentioned, particularly since I'm in a wheelchair and so my reaching capability is kinda weird anyway. According to the Guinea Lynx website 2x6 is enough space for up to 4 full grown
cavies so even if one of my girls has babies and we keep 2 more sows our bases are covered.
