My sweet and bossy Matilda Bell passed away early this morning. I was really surprised she lived as long as she did, but I know she had a wonderful life while she was with us.
When I first adopted Matilda, she was in terrible shape...a bad URI, long nails, fur & eyes looked so unhealthy, and she was as skinny as a bean sprout. I pampered her so much, by the time she was allowed to meet her new sister Maggie, she became the bossiest thing you ever did see.
She was doing so well. She was a completely turned around pig, except for a few days ago. In the beginning the vet, Dr Pikal, had told me she had a little heart murmur...and that it could be a heart condition...
Well, last night Matilda really started breathing like I had never seen her breath before....it was a true struggle. She had not moved all day...no amount of meds Dr Pikal gave her was helping...making sure she was hydrated, etc, nothing was helping...as I picked her up and craddled her in a big blanket of soft fleece, I could see it in her eyes...this would be her last day with us.
I craddled her for an hour and told her it was okay to go if she wanted to. I just couldn't stand seeing my poor girl like that. I told her all she had to do was go to the light and to not be scared...my Minnie & Sunny would be there waiting to play with her...and that I would see her very soon in my dreams.
She just kept looking at me though...waiting...
I decided to put her back in her house with Maggie. I put some extra fleece under her pigloo and placed her down gently...Maggie snuggled with her.
Early this morning I found her next to her hay bowl. I think she tried so hard to hold on, but she was just too weak and her heart wouldn't let her.
This is my girl :
Rest in Peace Matilda Bell. I know your having fun now with Minnie & Sunny...bossing everyone around and running all over the fields. See ya soon girl...you had a great run and I love you forever!
