Re: Seen it all now ~Stud boars for rent! | | It's actually quite common in the breeding industry, I saw a documentary on cattle breeding once before. Sperm from bulls is saved and frozen, then at some point used (via artificial insemination) into an own cow or sold / auctioned on the open market. Frozen sperm from a prize bull can go for several thousand dollars or more. DNA and characteristics are tracked, and with a sophisticated computer model to determine who 'mates' with who (all via artificial insemination) in order to produce the "best" offspring, some cattle ranchers can get as high as a 10% re-breed / 90% terminal ratio. It was on the Discovery channel or History channel I think. Pretty sick stuff. |
