Unhappy UK pet violence, another reason to keep them indoors

Violent thugs batter family pets to death
VIOLENT thugs battered two beloved family pets in a sickening overnight attack.
Devastated schoolgirl Charlotte Morgan, 13, discovered the remains of Smoky the rabbit and Gizmo the guinea pig at her home on Radcliffe Road, Lupset, on Saturday morning.

Police believe the attackers stamped the pets to death or bludgeoned them with a hammer after breaking into their hutches. Nothing was taken from the scene.

Charlotte, who looked after the two animals with brother Jack, eight, said: "I want to find out who it is and ask them why they did it. They have hurt the animals, but they have hurt us too.

"I could have understood it if they wanted to take them to look after them, but they have just wasted their lives."

Mum Carol, who is a mental health nurse, was at home when Charlotte made the grizzly discovery. She said: "Her scream was unreal, it was like a piercing wail. I thought she was seriously hurt and went rushing out to find her.

"You can't call the people who did this animals, because even animals aren't capable of this behaviour.

"Whoever knows them should keep an eye on them, because if they can do something like this then they could be capable of something much worse.

"This kind of thing is one of the risk indicators for potentially violent criminals."

Charlotte's dad Simon added: "The kids certainly haven't done anything to anyone. The people who did this are cowards."

Becky Hawkes, of the RSPCA, added: "What the family found must have been very distressing and we condemn any deliberate acts of cruelty like this."

PC Alan Coulson, of Wakefield police, said: "There seems to be no motive behind it, it's just a heartless, cruel act."

Anyone with information about the attack, which is believed to have happened between 1am and 4.30am on Saturday, should call police on 01924 293230 or the RSPCA, in confidence, on 0870 5555999.
