Grass V Hay

Just pondering the benefits of grass V hay... I know hay is dried grass etc, but now that the grass is growing faster than I can cut it ( I have a couple of 'wild' areas in my garden where I let the grass grow - which I cut for the pigs) - I was wondering if it was as 'good for them' as hay? As hay is essential for guinea pigs' good health, is it OK that mine are eating much more grass than hay now that it is available in quantity?

(Sorry, am sure I could have put that better - frazzled brain this weekend!)
